Yuan (Karina) Zhang
Hello! I’m Karina, a Research Assistant in Dr. Kubow’s lab at McGill. I completed my M.Sc. here, collaborating with Dr. Svetlana Komarova on a project that explored whether collagen-I mutation in osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) affects more than bones. Our work showed, for the first time, that intestinal phenotypes are altered in severe OI mouse models. Besides my research experience, I also earned my B.Sc. in Dietetics at McGill and am a registered dietitian in Quebec. Currently, I am interested in studying how dietary factors affect our metabolic health, employing multi-omics strategies to uncover new scientific insights. For me, nutrition is more than a field of study—it’s a passion. My greatest hope is to see the advancements in nutritional science increasingly benefit public health.
